Information for Recruiters

Goals of the Finance Scholar Program

The Goal of the Finance Scholars Program is to provide high potential students majoring in finance with access to alumni, information about various finance career tracks, comprehensive career preparation, and industry knowledge to effectively pursue challenging finance careers. By facilitating strong placements, KU Business hopes to:

  • Elevate the reputation of the KU Finance Program
  • Attract strong students to the Finance Major
  • Provide top talent to local, regional, and national recruiting organizations

Founding Program: Jayhawks on Wall Street

KU Business launched the Jayhawks on Wall Street program in 2005 to facilitate the placement of top finance students in investment-related areas. The program prepared students through the delivery of a Wall Street Boot Camp and included alumni visits in New York to investment banks, the New York Stock Exchange and other leading financial institutions. The program achieved 100% placement success, with all participants finding employment consistent with their career goals.

Expansion Program: Finance Scholars

The KU School of Business launched the Finance Scholars program in spring of 2008 as an extension of the Jayhawks on Wall Street Program. Eighteen finance students were competitively selected to participate in the program on the basis of academic achievement, leadership, and focused career interests in finance. As part of the program, students enrolled in a course called Financial Careers & Institutions which addresses competitive finance career paths and focused career preparation. Students in the program also receive a scholarship, are expected to complete a relevant internship, and participate in site visits to financial organizations throughout the country.
