Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2012

LAWRENCE — Professor Arno F. Knapper passed away on Jan. 19. Knapper began at the University of Kansas in 1948 teaching business writing and business communications. Later in his career he taught organizational behavior and human resources management courses.

He retired in 1988 and could frequently be found at faculty retiree club meetings and at the Adams Alumni Center. Knapper was a recipient of KU's Hope award and also served in the United States Navy. He was 86 years old.

"Arno Knapper had high standards and was demanding of his students who valued his care, instruction and advice," said Parker Lessig, Frank S. Pinet distinguished teaching professor. "He was highly respected and liked for those of us fortunate enough to know him."

Memorial services will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the charity of the donor's choice and may be sent in care of the Warren-McElwain Morturary in Lawrence.

"He was a bona fide character in the business school," said Maurice Joy, professor emeritus. "He championed the idea that the school existed to educate and benefit the students and everything he did flowed from that conviction. I'm glad to have known him."
