Career services director receives honor society award

LAWRENCE ― Jennifer Jordan, director of the school's Business Career Services Center, has been named one of five recipients of KU Mortar Board society's 2011 Outstanding Educator award.

"Jennifer's nomination received resounding support from the entire honor society board," said member Erin Robinson. "Every Mortar Board member who has worked with her during their time at KU agreed that she has significantly added to their education and overall life in college."

The award is given annually by Mortar Board honor society's Torch Chapter, representing students from the University of Kansas. Members are asked to nominate educators who make a significant educational impact on KU students. Any faculty member across campus is eligible for the award.

"I was surprised to be recognized as an educator because I serve as a career advisor to our students and am not in an instructional-based role," Jordan said. "There are many deserving faculty members, but the award is a reminder of the impact that student services and support staff play in the educational experience and development of our students. It's truly a privilege to work with students during their professional development, and to be recognized in this way is a great honor."

The other outstanding educators include Mikhail Barybin, associate professor of chemistry; Peter Grund, assistant professor of English; Leslie Tuttle, assistant professor of history; and Susan Harris, distinguished professor of English.

"This honor reinforces the positive influence Jennifer has on business students every day," said Neeli Bendapudi, School of Business dean. "Her work is a superb example of how our faculty and staff make the School of Business a great place to learn. I commend the honor society for recognizing her talents."

Jordan will celebrate her 10-year anniversary with the School of Business in January. She earned an undergraduate degree in psychology from Iowa State University and a master's in counseling and career development from the University of Missouri. Prior to joining KU, Jordan worked in recruiting and human resources at Accenture, a global management consulting, technology services and outsourcing company in Kansas City.

Jordan, along with the four other recipients, will be honored during the Nov. 8 men's basketball game against Fort Hays State University and again in a Nov. 13 reception.
