Andrew Ross Sorkin

LAWRENCE ― Andrew Ross Sorkin, New York Times chief mergers and acquisitions reporter, co-host of CNBC's Squawk Box and author of "Too Big to Fail" will present "The Global Economy: What's Next?" as the School of Business 2011 Anderson Chandler Lecture Thursday, Oct. 13, 7 p.m. at the Lied Center.

The event is free to the public.

Sorkin was recently named co-anchor of CNBC's Squawk Box and is the editor of DealBook, an online daily financial report he started for The New York Times in 2001, as well as assistant editor of business and finance news. He has appeared on NBC's "Today" show and on "Charlie Rose" on PBS.

He won a Society of American Business Editors and Writers Award for breaking news in 2005 and again in 2006. In 2007, the World Economic Forum named him a Young Global Leader. In 2008 and 2009, Vanity Fair named him to its "Next Establishment" list. Sorkin is a term member of the Council on Foreign Relations.

Sorkin published "Too Big to Fail" in 2009 chronicling the events of the 2008 financial crisis and the collapse of Lehman Brothers, which remains the largest bankruptcy filing in U.S. history with more than $600 billion in assets. The book was adapted in 2011 to an Emmy-nominated HBO television movie of the same name.

Sorkin is a graduate of Cornell University and began writing for The New York Times in 1995 as a high school intern.

The Anderson Chandler Lecture Series began in 1997, and is made possible by Anderson Chandler. He is CEO, president and director of Fidelity State Bank and Trust Company of Topeka, Kan. He received KU's Distinguished Service Citation from the Alumni Association in 2010 and is one of the first alumni honored, in 1998, with the School of Business Distinguished Alumni Award.

Chandler also established the Anderson W. Chandler Teaching Professorship in Business to recognize and encourage excellence in classroom teaching.
