International Business Week focuses on India
Thursday, Sept. 1, 2011
LAWRENCE ―The University of Kansas School of Business will be celebrating International Business Week from September 12 - 16. International Business Week is a new event organized by the school's Institute of International Business (IIB) designed to enhance the understanding of global business. This year, the focus will be on India's rapidly evolving business environment.
"The high growth rate of the Indian economy, a burgeoning and increasingly affluent middle class, and high service emphasis all imply that understanding India is a critical component of today's business education," said Kissan Joseph, professor of marketing.
As part of this event, IIB has invited two individuals affiliated with the Asian School of Business (ASB), a newly established private business school located in Trivandrum, India. The guests are G. Vijayaraghavan and professor K. Balakrishnan.
Vijayaraghavan is the director of the board at the Asian School of Business and founding CEO of Technopark Trivandrum, the first technology and software park in India. Technopark hosts 225 companies and employs more than 30,000 professionals. Balakrishnan is Dean of the Asian School of Business. Collectively, the two guests from ASB bring a wealth of knowledge and many years of experience in business and business education.
"The most exciting part of our efforts in developing exchange opportunities in India is that we now have a very resourceful host, the Asian School of Business (ASB)," said professor Tailan Chi, faculty director for IIB.
IIB has organized several events featuring its guests. On Monday, September 12 Mr. G. Vijayaraghavan and Dean Balakrishnan will speak at 7:30 p.m. in the Kansas Union. They will highlight marketing and entrepreneurship in India.
The following morning, Tuesday, Sept. 13 at 7:00 a.m., they will deliver a presentation over breakfast at the KU Edwards Campus, "India: Ancient Land, Modern Opportunities." Finally, the week will be rounded out by a student case competition featuring a business problem set in the Indian retail setting and a faculty forum.
If you would like to participate in these events, please contact Suzanne Scales, IIB assistant director, at sscales@ku.edu.
