Friday, Aug. 26, 2011
LAWRENCE — Bloomberg Businessweek has released its 2011 rankings of undergraduate business schools with the University of Kansas School of Business accounting program No. 17 nationally and No. 7 among public universities. The School of Business also ranked No. 28 for its business law program.
The publication releases annual rankings to help students and parents choose the right business program for their needs. Businessweek highlights the nation's top undergraduate business programs by surveying more than 85,000 students at more than 100 top business schools and asks them to rate their program's performance in 14 academic disciplines ranging from calculus and ethics to marketing and sustainability.
The school's accounting and information systems (AIS) area touts 25 faculty members, 420 undergraduates, 155 master's students and 11 doctoral students. Professor John Sweeney directs the area with assistant professor Lisa Ottinger as director of the Master of Accounting program.
Many undergraduate accounting majors enter the school's Master of Accounting (MAcc) program after graduation. It allows students to complete the educational requirements for CPA certification in most states, including Kansas and Missouri. The MAcc program also consistently boasts a high job placement rate for its graduates.
KU's School of Business is one of only 177 schools with Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business accreditation for its school and its accounting program. The school consists of four academic areas – finance, economics and decision sciences; accounting and information systems; marketing, entrepreneurship and law; and management – with an enrollment of more than 1,000 undergraduates, 581 master's students and 34 doctoral students.
