President of Federal Reserve Bank to present 2010 Chandler Lecture

University of Kansas School of Business announces its 2010 Chandler Lecture. President and CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City Thomas M. Hoenig will present “The Economic Outlook and Challenges Facing Monetary Policymakers” at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 25, at the Lied Center of Kansas.
The event is free and open to the public. Tickets are not required.
Hoenig has been president and CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City since 1991, directing Federal Reserve activities in the tenth Federal Reserve District. He is the senior member of the Federal Reserve System’s Federal Open Market Committee, the key body with authority over national monetary policy in the United States.
Hoenig received his doctorate in economics from Iowa State University. He joined the Federal Reserve Bank in 1973 as an economist and was a senior officer in banking supervision during the U.S. banking crisis of the 1980s. He currently serves as chairman of the Federal Reserve Conference of Presidents.
He is a native of Fort Madison, Iowa and resides in Kansas City, Mo.
The Chandler Lecture began in 1997, and is made possible by Anderson Chandler. He is currently CEO, president and director of Fidelity State Bank and Trust Company of Topeka, Kan. Chandler is a School of Business alumnus and was one of the first alumni honored, in 1998, with the Distinguished Alumni Award.
Chandler also established the Anderson W. Chandler Teaching Professorship in Business to recognize and encourage excellence in classroom teaching.
