Fall 2010 Student & Academic Services parents update
Friday, September 10, 2010
Summer is officially over and the start of the fall 2010 semester is in full swing. Pre-business students will be progressing in the pre-admission business and general education coursework. It is critical that students are aware of the importance of doing well in their courses as their GPAs will be a determining factor in admission to the KU School of Business. Learning time management strategies can help increase academic success. Students can learn about time management strategies and other helpful tools through the Academic Achievement and Access Center located in 22 Strong Hall. Please review the Center’s calendar for upcoming events.
Admission applications to the School of Business for spring 2011 are due Sept. 15. Students who are admitted will be notified of their acceptance by early October. Students will be notified via U.S. Postal Service mail using an address of their choice. Parents, if you are the recipient of this letter, it is important to pass the information on to your student as they are responsible for knowing the letters contents. The letter contains information about Business New Admit Orientation, as well as what is expected of the student in order to maintain their admission. The next admission cycle deadline is Feb. 15, 2011 for fall 2011 admission.
School of Business seniors who plan to graduate in spring 2011 should be making appointments for a graduation check at this time. This advising appointment will clearly state what is expected of the student in order to officially graduate in May. Student & Academic Services advisors are taking appointments now. Seniors can make a graduation-check appointment by calling (785) 864-7500 or stopping by 206 Summerfield Hall. This appointment will also release the business-advising hold for spring 2011 class enrollment.
Reminder: All pre-business and admitted business students have an enrollment hold placed on their enrollment account until they meet with an advisor to discuss next semester’s scheduling. Students can avoid the advising rush that happens around enrollment by visiting with an advisor now to schedule classes for spring 2011; it’s not too early. Please encourage your student to call (785) 864-7500 or stop by 206 Summerfield Hall to schedule an advising appointment.
Students who began as KU freshman in fall 2008 are entering into the second half of the “Four-Year Tuition Compact.” Encourage your student to come in for extensive planning to make sure they are on track to graduate in four years. Students pursuing special study abroad programs or additional bachelor’s degrees (i.e. bachelor’s of science in business and bachelor’s of arts in English) may go beyond the four years allotted for the compact. If this sounds like something your student has mentioned, discuss this with them and encourage them to talk to an advisor to determine how it may affect their four-year graduation plan.
We wish everyone a safe and happy fall semester. Please feel free to contact us in Student & Academic Services if you have questions.
