School of Business students, faculty recognized with recent awards

A myriad of University of Kansas School of Business students, faculty and staff were recognized recently for their excellent performance and dedication to the University.
Six School of Business students were awarded 2010 Honors Program medallions. Marketing majors Emelia C. Brooke and Laura R. Smith; Accounting majors Daniel L. Eveloff, Callie E. Reber and Emily R. Sheldon; Finance major Shawn M. Jung all received the medallion.
Rachel Berry received the Kansas City Financial Executives Institute Scholarship.
The following students were on the Dean’s List for the spring 2010 semester: Pronobesh Banerjee, Jungsil Choi, Lijing Du, Mike Ellis, Jian Huang, Kay Lee, Yucong Liu, Matt Luth, Juan Mao, Alex Martynov, Won Yong Oh, D.J. Schepker, Nan Sun, Jan Super, Gokhan Torna, Cully West, Janie Whiteaker, Yang Xu and Han Yu.
A number of teaching awards were also presented to Ph.D. candidates this semester. Won Yon Oh and D.J. Schepker won the John O. Tollesfon Teaching Award; Matt Luth won the Constance Ducey Teaching Award; and Carol Flinchbaugh won the Holmes Teaching Excellence Award.
Alex Martynov was awarded the Max E. Fessler Dissertation Award. Pronobesh Banerjee, Yucong Liu, Ghadir Ishqaidef and Alex Martynox were also awarded Dissertation Fellowships.
Melissa H. Birch, associate professor of business, received the Kathleen McCluskey-Fawcett Women Mentoring Women award. As a leader in international business education, Birch has demonstrated excellence in the KU School of Business and as the director of the Center for International Business Education and Research (KU CIBER). Appointed by the U.S. Secretary of Commerce, Birch serves on the Mid-America District Export Council. She is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Kansas City International Trade Council and the Kansas International Trade Coordinating Committee.
Kissan Joseph was awarded the Bryon Schultz Distinguished Professor Award for his excellence in teaching.
Additional faculty members were recognized for excellence in teaching. Mark Haug received the Beta Gamma Sigma Outstanding Educator Award and the Undergraduate Business Council Outstanding Educator Award. Kevin Smith received the Graduate Business Council Outstanding Educator Award. Jim Guthrie received the Gordon Fitch Faculty Service Award. Raquel Alexander and Mark Haug received the Henry A. Bubb Award for Outstanding Teaching.
Erin Halfen and Jason O’Connor won the 2010 KU School of Business Staff Appreciation Awards for their quality of service and commitment to continuous improvement. They were honored at a March 25 Staff Appreciation Award Luncheon at The Oread Hotel.
School of Business employees were also recognized for their time at the University.
