The University of Kansas Career Services Alliance presents the 2010 Just-in-Time Career Fair Thursday, April 29, 1:30 to 4:30 p.m., on the fifth floor of the Kansan Union. All employers attending will have open jobs available on KU Career Connections. This is the last Career Fair of the spring semester for students interested in summer internships or full-time positions. All majors are welcome to attend.

More than 30 employers will be attending, including AFLAC, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas, the City of Lawrence, Farmers Insurance Group, Garmin International Inc., Northwestern Mutual Financial Network, Peace Corps, Target Stores, Waddell & Reed and Wells Fargo Financial.

The Business Career Services Center (BCSC) has compiled a list of the best ways to make the most out of a career fair:

Before the Career Fair:
1. Get a list of the participating employers.
2. Research the employers you’re interested in meeting.
3. Prepare your resume, have it edited at the BCSC; Print off extras for the fair.
4. Prepare a one-minute “commercial” about yourself: name, major and career interests.
5. Identify specific experiences to share with employers to show your strengths.
6. Back up your skills with specific examples.
7. Plan your attire: professional, yet comfortable.
8. Prepare specific questions to ask employers (i.e. What qualities do you look for in new hires?).

After the Career Fair:
1. Send a thank you note to employers of interest. You’ll stand out above the rest.
2. Consider sending an extra copy of your resume with a thank you note.
3. Check with KU Career Connections to see if an employer of interest is interviewing on campus.
4. If you missed a chance to meet an employer at the Career Fair, check KU Career Connections for contact information and apply or send a cover letter.
