MBA students find large economic potential in impact study

Thursday, January 14, 2010

According to the USA Today article titled "Proposed Amtrak line would mean millions for Wichita," substantial investment opportunities exist in the proposed Amtrak Northern Flyer train line. Jayhawk Consulting, a team of MBA students in the business consulting class at the University of Kansas' School of Business, recently composed this study on investment potential.

A summary of the study concludes that "overall economic impact shows a break-even return after the first year with a continuing $43 million annual impact." This research, which is a conjoint effort between the Jayhawk Consulting group and Amtrak, will likely "help the Northern Flyer Alliance get support for a bill that would authorize the Kansas Department of Transportation to develop services and create a fund for federal money to pass through to pay for the line."

At the KU School of Business we give our MBA students opportunities to make a real-world impact while gaining valuable experience.
