School of Business students Jack Chalfant and Emily Sheldon were inducted into the University of Kansas chapter of Phi Kappa Phi, an academic honor society.

The honor society has over 1 million members with chapters on more than 300 college campuses in the U.S. Seniors selected for induction by the society must have a cumulative GPA in the top 10 percent of their class.

Chalfant, Overland Park senior in accounting, plans to complete the School of Business Master of Accounting (MAcc) program before beginning a career in public accounting. He has been a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity and numerous honor societies, including the Greek senior honor society Order of Omega; sophomore honor society Lambda Sigma; junior honor society OWL; and Mortar Board, a campus-wide senior honor society. He is also a member of accounting fraternity Beta Alpha Psi. Chalfant will be interning at Ernst & Young in Kansas City in summer 2010.

"I was excited and happy that the hard work that I have put in throughout the past few years has enabled me to be a part of what I learned to be a very prestigious honor society," Chalfant said.

Sheldon, Topeka senior in accounting, participated in the CIMBA undergraduate study abroad program in Paderno del Grappa, Italy in fall 2008. While there, she served as the publicity chair for the Phi Beta Delta International Honors Society. She is the acting vice president of technology for the University of Kansas chapter of the American Business Women's Association, and was selected as a University Scholar in 2008. She plans to complete the MAcc program with emphasis in auditing.

Sheldon carries on a family tradition of academic success, as both her parents have been members of Phi Kappa Phi for more than 25 years. "Phi Kappa Phi membership provides recognition for academic excellence, valuable global networking, career assistance, and award and scholarship opportunities," she said. "My induction into Phi Kappa Phi was a great reward for all the effort I put in to being a full-time student at the University of Kansas."
