Monday, April 20, 2009

The Center for International Business Education and Research (CIBER) at KU's School of Business was this year's host of the CIBER Business Language Conference in Kansas City from April 2-4. An annual event, the 2009 conference was entitled "Navigating the World of Business Through Language and Culture," and featured speakers from all over the world addressing issues relevant to research and teaching of foreign languages for business applications.

The conference focused on delivering business language courses, understanding current social and economic trends in various regions of the world, and special issues in teaching less commonly taught languages.

More than 130 professionals dealing with the teaching of and research in foreign business languages were in attendance at the Marriott on the Country Club Plaza.

"We're very pleased with the success of this year's conference," said Melissa Birch, Director of KU CIBER. "KU's breadth and depth of talent in foreign languages, especially those less commonly taught, allowed us to deliver an outstanding conference program that incorporated a broad range of issues in teaching business languages."
