Business graduate students donate toys to KC hospital

Friday, December 19, 2008

University of Kansas Master of Accounting and MBA students delivered over $1,000 worth of toys yesterday to Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City. The KU Graduate Business Council collected over 80 new toys at their holiday party last week.

"I want to thank all of you who attended our Stop Day Party and made donations toward our Children's Mercy Hospital toy-drive," said Nick Arthachinda, KU MBA student and president of the Graduate Business Council. "It was a great success and something we can all be proud of."

The toys will be given to sick children staying at Children's Mercy hospital over the holidays. Children's Mercy is the only free-standing children's hospital between St. Louis and Denver, serving children and their families from across the Midwest.

Arthachinda said the number of donated toys exceeded the expectations of even the hospital staff, requiring three full carts to unload the items. "When we dropped the toys off, everyone was asking us where we were from and donating on whose behalf, we said, ÔKU Graduate Business SchoolÉwe're Jayhawks.'"

The KU Graduate Business Council holds a number of outreach opportunities each year for students to become more involved with the community. In addition to the Toy Drive, the Council is planning a golf tournament, a Valentine's Day party and the first annual KU MBA Executive Roundtable Series.

"We can most certainly look forward to more events in the following semesters as the Council continues to plan more opportunities to make our time here more enjoyable and meaningful," Arthachinda said.
