School of Business Holds Industry Nights
Friday, December 5, 2008
Representatives from companies looking to hire students visited the KU School of Business this fall for Consulting and Insurance Industry Nights. The two events were held by the Business Career Services Center in October.
For Consulting Industry Night, businesses from the consulting industry held a panel discussion with the 47 students who attended. Seventeen students attended the Insurance Industry Night the following evening.
"The idea was to really expose students to all facets of these industries," said David Byrd Stadler, business employer relations coordinator.
Representatives from Accenture, Perceptive Software, Deloitte Consulting, The Boston Consulting Group and Black and Veatch attended the Consulting Industry Night. The insurance companies represented were Prudential, Liberty Mutual, MetLife, BlueCross BlueShield of KC and Farmers Insurance.
Both events, held at the Burge Union, began with hour-long moderated panel discussions with questions to help students learn more about these industries and companies. Afterwards, students were able to walk around to each company and ask specific questions.
Byrd Stadler said students talked with representatives from the companies about career opportunities, entry points, the environment they would work in and career tracks.
"It was a big success," Byrd Stadler said. "We will definitely continue to do these every semester with new industries."
