Bank CEO discusses future of housing finance crisis at annual Chandler Lecture

Wednesday, October 29, 2008

As the nation struggled with an economic crisis this fall, the KU School of Business brought in one of the area's top experts on home loans for the annual Anderson Chandler Lecture. Andrew J. Jetter, President and CEO of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Topeka, addressed a full auditorium for his lecture titled "Looking Ahead: The Future of Housing Finance in America," on October 28.

Jetter addressed the structure and regulation of housing finance and changes that may occur to keep the system alive. He discussed the many factors involved in the mortgage and economic crises the country now faces, including skyrocketing housing prices prior to 2003.

The Chandler Lecture Series brings prominent leaders to campus to discuss contemporary issues in business. During his visit, Jetter also held a luncheon with 25 area bankers, met with a class of accounting students and visited School of Business faculty.

Jetter is the 12th lecturer for the Anderson Chandler Lecture Series, which began in 1997 and has featured guests including Sheila Bair, Chairman of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation and Alan Mulally, CEO of Ford Motor Company. The lecture series is made possible by Anderson Chandler, an alumnus of the KU School of Business and member of the School's Board of Advisors. Chandler is CEO, President, and Director of Fidelity State Bank and Trust Co. of Topeka and Vice President and Director of First Bank of Newton.
