President and CEO of the FHLBank of Topeka to speak at KU

The current mortgage crisis and federal bailout of nationwide lenders leaves many questions about our country's financial future. Andrew J. Jetter, President and CEO of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Topeka (FHLBank Topeka) will address this crucial topic during a lecture for the University of Kansas School of Business. Jetter will deliver the 2008 Chandler Lecture on Tuesday, October 28 at 7:00 p.m. at the Lied Center.
Jetter's lecture, titled "Looking Ahead: The Future of Housing Finance in America," will address the structure and regulation of housing finance and changes that may occur to keep the system alive. The free lecture is open to the public and tickets are not required. In addition to the lecture, Jetter will also make a presentation to a graduate Accounting class at the School of Business.
Employed by FHLBank Topeka for over 20 years, Jetter has held the positions of general counsel, senior vice president, executive vice president and chief operating officer prior to his appointment as president and CEO in 2002.
Under Mr. Jetter's leadership, FHLBank Topeka has experienced sustained success with a long history of strong asset and earnings growth. FHLBank of Topeka is consistently in the top tier of the twelve FHLBanks in terms of profitability, expense management and dividends. In the last five years, assets have grown over 50 percent and retained earnings have grown over 400 percent.
Jetter will be the 12th lecturer for the Anderson Chandler Lecture Series, which began in 1997. The lecture series is made possible by Anderson Chandler, an alumnus of the KU School of Business. Chandler is CEO, President, and Director of Fidelity State Bank and Trust Co. of Topeka and Vice President and Director of First Bank of Newton. Chandler serves on the School of Business Board of Advisors, in addition to supporting numerous other initiatives throughout The University of Kansas and the School.
Previous Chandler Lecturers include Sheila Bair, Chairman of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation; Alan Mulally, CEO of Ford Motor Company; Matthew Rose, CEO of Burlington Northern Santa Fe Corporation; Michael Powell, former chairman of the Federal Communications Commission; and syndicated columnists David Broder and Robert Novak.
