Parent Tips: Greetings from Student & Academic Services
Thursday, October 9, 2008
Pre-business students are in the midst of receiving advising services from the KU School of Business and the University Advising Center regarding Spring 2009 enrollment. If students have met the requirements to apply, the Spring application for the School of Business will be available on the first day of the Spring 2009 semester and is due by February 15th.
All candidates who currently meet minimum G.P.A. requirements (2.5 G.P.A.) are strongly encouraged to apply. Students will need to complete all of the pre-admission course work and have 60 credit hours by Summer 2009 to be eligible for consideration. If students would like to discuss their candidacy with a business advisor, please encourage them to contact Student & Academic Services, 785-864-7500, to schedule an appointment.
If students are not sure about what major and/or career in business they would like to pursue, BUS 101: Business Majors, Careers, and Professional Skills may be the course for them. BUS 101 will provide an overview of professional opportunities and business skills they can use to start their career. The course includes hands-on training in professional development areas including resumes, internships, ethics, and social responsibility. This course also includes guest lectures by industry professionals.
Most Business students are already enrolled in classes and prepared for the Spring 2009 semester. Most Seniors have completed their graduation check if they are graduating in the Spring or Summer of 2009. It they have not, they need to schedule a Graduation Check appointment with an advisor before they leave for winter break. Juniors will need to make an appointment for an extensive plan if they haven't completed one already!
Most importantly, all Business students need to be aware that the World Area Study requirement has changed. (SAS sent an email to all Business students regarding the change in early October.) If students are not sure how this change affects them, they should make an appointment in late November/early December to double-check their plans. The new International Dimension Requirement should not affect Business students in a negative way and may, in fact, require fewer credit hours.

Current students have the choice to continue the WAS or change to the IDR; whichever works best for their individual degree plans! If they have any questions, they should call the Student & Academic Services, 785-864-7500.
Have a great holiday season - see you in the Spring!!
