Majority of graduate students in accounting find employment prior to graduation
Thursday, September 11, 2008
The Masters of Accounting (MAcc) degree at The University of Kansas School of Business has consistently boasted a high job placement rate, and the majority of the 2007-2008 graduates found employment prior to donning their graduation robes.
According to the Annual Report published by the School of Business Career Services Center, 98.5 percent, or 62 of the 64 students who completed the graduate survey were employed by graduation. These placement numbers are even higher than those of the 2006-2007 graduates.
"The MAcc Program at the School of Business is a smart investment for any student seeking a career in accounting," said School of Business Dean William L. Fuerst. "The high-quality, dynamic curriculum is designed to fully prepare students to enter the accounting profession."
Graduates can rest assured that not only will they have an easy time finding employment, but they will be compensated well for their work - a boon in today's tough economy. According to the Business Career Services Center report, the salary range for those employed by graduation is $45,000 - $67,000 per year.
For Jennifer Jordan, director of the Business Career Services Center, these numbers are proof of both the merit of the program and the successful efforts of her department.
"Masters of Accounting graduates from KU continue to experience exceptional placement outcomes," Jordan said. "The Accounting department and the Business Career Services Center maintain strong relationships with a broad range of public and private accounting recruiting organizations in the Kansas City area and throughout the country that are anxious to hire graduates of the KU School of Business."
The MAcc program offers real-world learning opportunities to students, allowing them to apply their understanding of business theory through experiential learning. Such opportunities include job-shadowing, business consulting and internships, ensuring that MAcc graduates are prepared for today's business world and are highly employable.
