If your student decides to study abroad while at KU, he or she will be in good company. About 35% of Business School undergraduates study abroad—this rate is about three times the national average, and is due to the long history of strong international programs at KU. For example, the School'sparticipation with the Consortium Institute of Management and Business Analysis (CIMBA) facilitates a very popular program of business classes offered in the Veneto region of Italy. Depending on their interests, many students opt for study abroad programs available in other countries, such as Australia, Chile, China, Costa Rica, France, Germany, Japan, Mexico, Scotland, Spain, and Sweden. The School has recently established partnerships with two universities in China: the University of International Business and Economics in Beijing and Sun Yat-Sen University in Guangzhou. Beginning in Spring, 2009, KU Business students will be able to progress towards their degrees by taking business classes, in English, at these highly-ranked Chinese institutions.

The KU School of Business strongly encourages study abroad because it helps students experience first-hand the global changes that affect business today. As one student commented, "It is one thing to be taught how a particular culture behaves, how it thinks, or how it responds to authority, but it is a totally different thing to be submerged in it. A business person must recognize and identify with the small things about a country because those are the areas that are going to make or break the success of the company." Scholarships to help support study abroad are available through the School's Institute for International Business and other campus entities.

With reasonable planning, study abroad does not delay a student's graduation date and can add tremendous value to the educational experience. Many prospective employers recognize this as well. Spending time abroad is somewhat more expensive than staying home, but it will never be more "affordable" to your student than it is now.
