National Automobile Dealers support KU Ethics Center with $10,000 gift
Wednesday, June 4, 2008
The National Automobile Dealers Charitable Foundation (NADCF) recently donated $10,000 to support theKU International Center for Ethics in Business (ICEB). Dale Willey, owner of Dale Willey Automotive in Lawrence, presented the giftin Mayto KU School of Business Dean William L. Fuerst and ICEB Director and Professor Douglas May.
Willey said the gift supports the shared desire of the NADCF and ICEB to promote ethical practices in business.
"Ethics in business is the essential ingredient to a meaningful and successful business operation," Willey said. "Too often we see business failures as well as corporate and personal losses as a result of unethical behavior by management."
The KU International Center for Ethics in Business is a cooperative effort between the School of Business and the College of Liberal Arts. It aims to promote individual and corporate integrity in both U.S. and international business through research, service and education in ethical principles and behavior.
Willey also encouraged the NADCF to support the KU Center in part because of his connection to a School of Business alumnus, the late Bob Billings. Willey made his own gift to the NADCF in honor of Bob Billings.
"Bob Billings was a close friend as well as a loyal customer," Willey said. "I read an article in the Lawrence Journal-World a couple of years ago about Professor Joe Reitz teaching his Ethics class and this motivated me to recommend a gift to KU's International Center for Ethics in Business."
Willey serves on the Board of Trustees for the National Automobile Dealers Charitable Foundation. The $10,000 gift will be used to fund a variety of activities at the ICEB.
