2007 Homecoming - A Success in Every Way!

School of Business alumni enjoying the beautiful day at the tent

Wednesday, November 7, 2007

A great day at KU started with more 230 School of Business alumni, faculty and friends gathering at the School's Homecoming Tent set up on The Hill overlooking Memorial Stadium. With perfect fall weather providing a comfortable and "football-like" atmosphere, everyone at the tent enjoyed sharing college and life experiences, catching up with former classmates, meeting new friends, and leafing through old yearbooks provided by the University's research center.

This was the perfect start to what became a record-breaking day for KU football. KU scored 76 points against arch-rival Nebraska. That is the most points scored by KU in a conference game, the most points allowed in a game in the 117-year history of Nebraska football, and it was witnessed by 51,910 spectators -- a record-setting crowd (the vast majority dressed in blue!) at Memorial Stadium. Truly a day that everyone will remember and relive for a long time to come!

School of Business alumni had high praise for the School's academic programs. Randall Swain ('72), commented that his "son is about to graduate and he has two job offers already. Our money was very well spent with the KU School of Business."

Accounting faculty member Lisa Ottinger observed that Business School alumni not only are great supporters of the School, they also are "genuinely good people." Two such people are Shirley and Norman Cochran ('47), and Lisa was delighted to see and visit with them at the tent.

Business School alumni came from all over with one alumna, Ellen Whitman ('77), traveling all the way from Kissimee, Florida to attend the School's Homecoming event.

Barbara Murfin Murphy ('72) is from a family of Jayhawks. She said she, her brother and their father are Business School grads and now her children are attending KU.

The Homecoming Event honors graduates with anniversaries in 5-year increments. This year we honored graduates representing the Classes of 1932, Ô37, '42, Ô47,'52, '57, '62, '67, '72, 77, '82, '87, '92, '97, 2002 and 2007.

The 2007 Homecoming was indeed a great success in every way, and the School of Business looks forward to seeing even more alumni, faculty and supporters at next year's School of Business Homecoming Tent at the University of Kansas!
