A partnership between KU School of Business and the American Business Women’s Association (ABWA) continues to thrive. This year, the KU ABWA chapter received national recognition from headquarters for its high rate of memberships. The KU chapter had an active roster of 99 members this semester and each meeting attracted between 40-60 attendees.
KU ABWA members include students in every class level. This semester, the chapter inducted its first male member, Sachin Teli, who was also elected to the executive board.
Some of the KU ABWA activities this year included a fundraiser at the Kansas Speedway, local Adopt-A-Park cleanup weekends, the National ABWA Conference, the KU Relay for Life and sponsor and member appreciation social events.
In 2003, the ABWA partnered with the MBA Essentials Program at the KU School of Business. Through this partnership, KU faculty travel to national ABWA conferences to teach members the core ingredients of an MBA degree—strategic planning, management, accounting and problem solving.
“Our association is constantly reaching out to develop new areas to improve women’s opportunities in the workforce,” said ABWA National President Leila Lawson. “We’ve partnered with leading educational institutions such as the Kansas University School of Business.”
