University officials presented finance student Peter Curzon with the 2008 Chancellor’s Award during a surprise visit to his business class this month. Curzon received the Cary K. Smith Student Leader Award, one of ten awards presented to graduating seniors for their academic achievements and community involvement.
As part of his honor, Curzon’s name will appear in the program and he will be seated on the platform during the 2008 Commencement May 18 in Memorial Stadium, alongside KU Chancellor Robert Hemenway and other awardees.
“I am honored and thrilled to receive this award,” Curzon said. “It will be wonderful to be recognized at Commencement with all of my family and friends present. I have had an incredible experience here at KU and I’m happy to finish my time here on such a high note.”
Curzon has accomplished great things during his career at the School of Business. He traveled to New York in 2006 for Jayhawks on Wall Street, a networking program where he landed an internship in Mumbai, India for the summer of 2007. This year, Peter balanced a full course load while interviewing for finance jobs across the country. After graduation, he plans to move to San Francisco for a full-time position with an investment bank.
“Peter is extraordinarily talented and very bright,” said Finance Professor Kelly Welch. “He’s a good representative of the KU School of Business and we’re quite proud of him.”
In addition to his leadership and academic credentials, Peter is admired by students and faculty for his positive attitude and easygoing personality.
“Whenever I’ve asked him to help out with giving advice to other students who are interested in investment banking, he’s always willing to share his time and experiences,” said Professor Cathy Shenoy. “He’s just a really nice guy. Super smart and super nice.”
