LAWRENCE – Two outstanding business leaders will be honored as Distinguished Alumni of the University of Kansas School of Business at a banquet April 10. The 2008 honorees are Peter C. Brown, chairman of AMC Entertainment Inc., and Stephen A. (Tony) Batman, chairman of 1st Global, a financial services firm.
“Peter and Tony have each been trailblazers in their respective fields,” said Dean William L. Fuerst. “Their achievements demonstrate the diverse potential offered by a degree from the KU School of Business. We are proud to honor Peter and Tony as Distinguished Alumni.”
The Distinguished Alumni Award was created in 1998 to honor outstanding graduates from the School of Business. Recipients are chosen from nominations by fellow alumni and by the School's Board of Advisors. Candidates are nominated based on leadership, business contributions and involvement with the community and the School.
Brown is chairman of the board, chief executive officer and president of AMC Entertainment Inc. A native and resident of Kansas City, Mo., Brown serves on the executive committee and as vice chairman of the board of directors of the National Association of Theatre Owners. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from KU in 1979 and previously served on the KU School of Business Board of Advisors.
Batman is chairman, chief executive officer and co-founder of 1st Global, a Dallas-based business development partner to leading wealth management firms. He is a Certified Public Accountant, CFA charterholder, Certified Financial Planner and AICPA Accredited Personal Financial Specialist. Batman received his Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from KU in 1979 and has served on the School’s Board of Advisors for Accounting and Information Systems for the last seven years.
