New ethics blog discusses use of social networking in business world

You may use social networking sites like Facebook to manage your personal life, but did you know these Web sites can impact your professional life as well? Rock Chalk Ethics Talk, a blog created by the KU International Center for Business Ethics (ICEB) discusses how companies use online social networking to reach out to customers, connect with employees and even screen new applicants.

In an effort to elicit conversation about ethical issues in business, Dr. Douglas May, Co-Director of ICEB, developed the idea of an open public forum where students and others can share their thoughts. The first draft of this forum was a chalkboard in a student workspace in Summerfield Hall, and it evolved into the current online blog this semester.

“After discussions about some options, like a Facebook account, a blackboard site or a blog site, we decided we would create a blog,” said Ric Rosenfeld, a regular contributor to Rock Chalk Ethics Talk. “This allows for the type of conversation we are hoping for, also allowing posters to remain anonymous if they so choose.”

The ICEB will continue to add new topics to Rock Chalk Ethics Talk on a regular basis. Read more at: www.rockchalkethicstalk.blogspot.com
