Dual Degree


The KU School of Business currently offers eight dual degree programs. Dual degrees allow students to earn an MBA and specialize in a second discipline. Classes for dual degrees are held in Lawrence at the main campus and the Edwards Campus in Overland Park, KS. Students interested in these programs must apply to both the School of Business and the other applicable school.

Career-Specific Dual Degree Programs:

MBA-Juris Doctor (MBA-JD)

KU School of Law. The objective of this program is to combine into four years of study the three-year J.D. program offered by the School of Law and the two-year M.B.A. program offered by the School of Business. This program is designed to offer the student an opportunity to train in the convergent fields of law and business management, particularly those intending to engage in corporate law practice, or to enter business using law training as background.

MBA-Doctor of Pharmacy (MBA-PharmD)

KU School of Pharmacy. By adding an additional year of coursework, students can earn a KU MBA while working toward a pharmacy degree. Admission in this program is restricted to students currently in the PharmD program.

MBA-Petroleum Management (MBA-PM)

KU School of Engineering. While this program is specially designed to meet requirements of active duty military officers, the program is open to any student who meets the admission requirements. Applicants to the program are generally pre-screened by the U.S. Navy.

MBA-Architecture

The MBA-M.Arch program is designed particularly for those students intending to pursue management opportunities in architecture, development or construction. The MBA-M.Arch program requires four years of study, one less year than it would take to separately earn each degree. Students completing the dual-degree program will earn an MBA from the KU School of Business and a masters in architecture from the KU School of Architecture and Urban Planning.

International-Themed Dual Degree Programs:

MBA-Master of Arts in East Asian Languages and Cultures (MBA-MA EALC)

Offered in conjunction with the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, the MBA-MA EALC is designed to combine a business education with a specific focus on China, Japan, Korea or Pan-Asian geographic areas and languages. Founded in 1959, the Center for East Asian Studies at KU is the only East Asian resource center in the great plains region. Additionally, the Confucius Institute at KU, founded in 2006, is a cooperative project of KU, the National Office for Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language of the Chinese Ministry of Education, and Huazhong Normal University. The center at KU is one of four Confucius Institute Centers in the U.S.

MBA-Masters of Arts in Latin American Studies (MBA-MA LAS)

College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, the MBA-MA in Latin American Studies is designed to combine a graduate business education with a specific focus in Latin American geographic areas and languages. The Center of Latin American Studies at KU is distinguished by its quality and long-term stability. Established in 1959, the center has been awarded graduate fellowships by the U.S. Department of Education (USDE) since 1976 and was designated and funded by USDE as a Comprehensive National Resource Center on Latin America in 1983-1988 and 1994-2006.

MBA-Masters of Arts in Russian, E. European & Eurasian Studies (MBA-MA REEES)

Similar to the MBA-MA LAS, the MBA-MA REEES is designed to combine a business education with a specific focus in Russian, Eastern European and Eurasian geographic areas and languages. Since 1965, the KU Center for Russian, East European and Eurasian Studies is one of 16 Title VI Comprehensive National Resource Centers for the Russian and East/Central European area supported by the U.S. Department of Education.

Study Abroad Dual Degree Programs:

MBA-Master in Management (MBA-MIM)

Offered in partnership with The Groupe ESC Clermont Graduate School of Management, the MBA-MIM combines graduate-level management classes at the Lawrence Campus, a semester of classes at Clermont-Ferrand in France, and an approximate six-month internship at a European company. The result is a KU MBA and a Master in Management from The Groupe ESC Clermont Graduate School of Management. The ESC Clermont Graduate School of Management, which is one of the premiere schools in France, is located in downtown Clermont-Ferrand.
