The Kansas Department of Commerce and Housing (KDOCH) offers many programs for business owners. Of particular interest to small business owners are their startup assistance programs, microloan programs, export assistance programs, and programs tied to job creation. KDOCH also sponsors a program called The First Stop Clearinghouse that helps businesses identify the licensing and permit requirements for their particular industries. Callers will be referred to the appropriate agencies if registration is required. A great time-saver for business owners. Call the FSCH at 785-296-5298.

The Kansas Department of Revenue has an extensive website that provides online business registration, tax forms, employee withholding forms, and sales tax forms among others. Their site can be visited at http://www.ksrevenue.org or you can call them at 1-877-526-7738.

The Kansas Secretary of State handles incorporation filing documents, business name registration, KS trademarks and all associated forms. Information and forms can be downloaded at their website, http://www.kssos.org, or they can be contacted by phone at 785-296-4564.

Kansas Rural Development is a state program of the federal US Department of Agriculture. Has economic development programs for firms in small communities. Visit their website at http://www.rurdev.usda.gov/ks/.

The Kansas Technology Enterprise Corporation (KTEC)
is a state program for technology firms, including research, assistance, and investment. Their site can be visited at http://www.ktec.com, or call them at 785-296-5272.

The Kansas Department of of Human Resources has an extensive website that covers multiple issues associated with being an employer including workers compensation, workplace laws, unemployment insurance, etc. Visit their website at http://www.hr.state.ks.us/.

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment website provides information for industries that have health and environmental impacts. Their website can be visited at http://www.kdhe.state.ks.us/.

The Kansas Insurance Commissioner's website contains a page that specifically addresses small business insurance issues. Visit this website at http://www.ksinsurance.org/.
