The Kansas Department of Commerce and Housing (KDOCH) offers many programs for business owners. Of particular interest to small business owners are their startup assistance programs, microloan programs, export assistance programs, and programs tied to job creation. KDOCH also sponsors a program called The First Stop Clearinghouse that helps businesses identify the licensing and permit requirements for their particular industries. The Kansas Secretary of State handles incorporation filing documents, business name registration, KS trademarks and all associated forms. Information and forms can be downloaded at their website, http://www.kssos.org, or they can be contacted by phone at 785-296-4564.

Kansas Rural Development is a state program of the federal US Department of Agriculture. Has economic development programs for firms in small communities. Visit their website at http://www.rurdev.usda.gov/ks/.

The Kansas Technology Enterprise Corporation (KTEC) is a state program for technology firms, including research, assistance, and investment. Their site can be visited at http://www.ktec.com, or call them at 785-296-5272.

The Kansas Department of of Human Resources has an extensive website that covers multiple issues associated with being an employer including workers compensation, workplace laws, unemployment insurance, etc. Visit their website at http://www.hr.state.ks.us/.
