Student OrganizationsJoining a student organization is a great way to interact with fellow students and gain important leadership experiences. Additionally, employers look for involvement in student organizations when hiring graduates. The KU School of Business has a broad range of organizations to fit students’ interests and career goals. Alpha Kappa PsiAlpha Kappa Psi is the oldest and largest professional business fraternity in the nation, devoted to shaping its members into principled business leaders. Members have the opportunity to network with students and employers; to enhance interpersonal and leadership skills; and to organize and participate in community events. Membership is open to all pre-business and business students. Election: April & November American Business Women's Association (ABWA)The American Business Women’s Association was established to help promotethe advancement of women in business. The organization brings togetherstudents interested in business, although members may be from any major, and may be either male or female. The KU chapter of ABWA offers guest speakers, community service, group activities, and affiliation with the national ABWA organization. Membership in ABWA provides opportunities for personal growth, leadership, networking, education, and service. Finance ClubThe Finance Club was established to increase and promote financial literacy and to explore contemporary events, issues, and opportunities in the field of finance. The organization frequently hosts guest speakers with experience in areas such as corporate finance, investments, banking, financial consulting, etc. Members of the club gain membership to the Financial Management Association, an organization dedicated to uniting academia and financial practitioners and to enhancing the quality of financial education. Real Estate ClubThe purpose of the KU Real Estate Club is to educate students about the various aspects of the real estate industry and to network with local professionals. Meetings involve guest speakers, office visits, site visits to local developments, and receptions with area professionals. All majors are welcome. The chapter provides a mentoring program and job shadowing opportunities where students are paired with local HR professionals and can network in a one-on-one setting. As well as having bi-weekly meetings, KU SHRM also competes in the yearly State of Kansas HR Games, has active HR professionals teach members about the HR profession, and keeps our members updated on job and internship postings, most of which are targeted to students! Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE)Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) is an international student organization which has the goal of "changing the world." The group focuses on community outreach and educational-based projects supporting the benefits and responsibilities of the free enterprise system. Students develop projects in the areas of (1) market economics, (2) entrepreneurship, (3) personal financial success skills, and (4) business ethics. SIFE has regional and national competitions each year to present the group's projects. The contests are judged by upper managment of the largest and most respected companies in the country, many of which are SIFE sponsors. All students, regardless of major, graduate or undergraduate are invited to participate. SIFE develops the leadership, teamwork, and communication skills that are greatly valued in competitive job markets. SIFE is a strong plus on your resume. Tax ClubKU Tax Club (KUTC) was established to introduce students to opportunities career opportunities related to tax such as public accounting, law, and public service. Members network with students, alumni and employers at club meetings and socials. Members also participate in community service projects such as Boys and Girls Club “Round-up,” VITA tax assistance clinics, and service learning projects.
