The Classroom Experience

Earning a MBA while meeting the commitments of work, a family or both can be challenging. At the Evening-Professional MBA program, great attention is paid to balancing an employer-valued education with the flexibility desired by students.

Tailored Curriculum
The Evening-Professional MBA program grants students tremendous flexibility in developing an education that primes them for unlimited success. Students can choose from a broad range of educational opportunities that customize their educational path. This ability offers significant value to KU MBA graduates by allowing them to select the experiences that yield the greatest contributions to their future careers.

Adaptable Scheduling
Designed specifically for working professionals, courses meet during weekday evenings at the Edwards Campus in Overland Park. A typical course will meet once a week, for eight weeks with each class session lasting approximately three hours. Most core courses are offered each semester and elective courses are offered on a rotational basis. Some students use the flexibility to complete the curriculum in two years. Other students take courses at a slower pace or schedule breaks to attend to work or family needs.

Beyond Lectures
Professors in the Evening-Professional MBA program use a variety of methods, allowing students to interact and learn from each other. Many use a combination of business case discussions, group presentations, guest speakers and simulations to bring the topics to life. It’s real-world learning based on cutting-edge business research.

Real-world learning opportunities are also available to further enrich the MBA experience, including the opportunity to attend the annual Berkshire Hathaway meeting. At the meeting, Warren Buffett, Berkshire’s CEO and arguably the world’s greatest investor of all time, answers questions from a crowd of business-minded individuals. Nearly 200 School of Business students make the annual trip to Omaha for this unique opportunity.

Global Engagements
The KU MBA is only Kansas City area program offering study-abroad opportunities to evening students. With ten-to-twelve day trips, it is possible for anyone to experience the international challenges and changes that lie ahead. Employers relentlessly seek employees who are globally aware and who understand the intricacies of doing business in a foreign country. KU MBA students have studied and met with industry executives from companies based in France, Italy, India, Germany, Brazil and China.
