The requirements of the PhD program are demanding and students must make sustained progress toward completing all degree requirements in four to five years. College mathematics, including calculus, is a prerequisite. Admitted students usually hold a Masters degree in Business or a related discipline. However, qualified applicants are encouraged to apply directly after obtaining their undergraduate degree in any discipline.
Applicants must demonstrate competence through a high level of prior academic performance and a score of 600 or above on the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT), however highly qualified applicants with a score below may be considered. Non-native English speakers must score at least a 600 on the paper-based, 250 on the computer-based, or 100 on the internet-based Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).
Finally, the applicant must demonstrate the ability for doctoral study through a record of achievement in professional and academic experience, as evidenced in letters of recommendation.
GMAT Guidelines- The Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) is required of all applicants to the Ph.D. program. If an applicant has already taken the GRE exam, it may be substituted for the GMAT.
- Official GMAT scores may be no older than 5 years.
- A score of 600 or above is required for admission, however highly qualified applicants with a score below may be considered. The average GMAT score of those in the program is 682.

TOEFL Guidelines- The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is required of all applicants whose native language is not English, unless they hold a degree granted by an accredited U.S. institution of higher education or a degree granted by an institution in the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, or English-speaking provinces in Canada.
- TOEFL scores more than two years old will not be accepted.
- A minimum TOEFL score of 600 on the paper-based test, or 250 on the computer-based test, or 100 on the internet-based test is required. To register for the TOEFL, contact the Educational Testing Service:

International Students- If admitted to the program, you will be required to take the Test of Spoken English or the University SPEAK Test.
- Statement of financial support must be able to show adequate financial resources to cover all expenses while studying in the U.S.
- Check the Office of International Student and Scholar Services for additional information.
Deadline for Applications Students are admitted only once each academic year at the start of the fall semester. For entry in the fall, January 10th is the deadline. The Management faculty will give preference to students who apply by December 1st. Applicants for other disciplines are encouraged to apply early. Notification of admission and financial aid will be made by April 15th.

A completed KU Graduate School application
A completed Supplemental Data Sheet
Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) scores OR Graduate Record Exam (GRE) scores
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) scores from all international students or from applicants whose native language is not English sent from TOEFL
Official transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate study completed to date
Three letters of recommendation received directly from the persons writing the letters
A non-refundable application processing fee of US $60 for online applications, or US $65 for paper applications, payable to the University of Kansas
